OVERVIEW

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is one of the fasted growing competitive sports globally.
MMA merges a combination of combat disciplines such as Wrestling, Boxing, Muay Thai, Karate and Jiu Jitsu.

MMA boasts a current viewership of around 120 million world-wide.

Since gaining popularity in South Africa, MMA has infiltrated the youth market, causing a surge in Generation X seeking to learn the skills of the sport.

The Amateur Fight League (AFL) promotes amateur MMA fighters, and hosts around 8 national events annually.

Each event attracts a crowd of between 1 500 and
3 000 people between the ages of 18 and 40.
Based in Durban, AFL has hosted events in Durban, Margate, Empangeni and Klerksdorp.
AFL is the largest amateur fighting body in South Africa.
Tickets are R120 and are available through Webticket and participating clubs.

AFL events typically showcase

20 – 40 amateur fighters with

20 officials overseeing the proceedings.
The events showcase various divisions based on age and weight class and can include
provincial title fights

Professional fights

AFL is affiliated to MASA
(Mixed Martial Arts of South Africa)
with all events being sanctioned by MASA.

AFL abides by their strict code of conduct and safety rules.

The rules are stringent with regards to the organisation of events and competitor health requirements.
Safety and emergency back up with ambulances, police, security, referees, officials and judges are present at each event.
Competitors have to pass a number of medical tests 24 hours prior to the event, including weigh ins.
These include HIV testing

AFFILATION

All our AFL fighters are marketed through TV, magazines, billboards and web video, increasing their awareness amongst supporters of the sport.

Top athletes promote themselves through Facebook and Twitter, thus bringing with them a legion of supporters to every event.

The events will be marketed through moving billboards, the Fighting Magazine, posters in clubs and the official Facebook page.

AFL has a “Youth Development Programme” in place that educates underprivileged children in the various disciplines at the community centres in their areas.
 
MMA has influenced and infiltrated the sports market and youth culture in South Africa, and seems set to explode as the spectator sport of choice over the next few years.

The AFL Cage Fight Night  will add an exciting dimension to the Durban calendar, which will compliment Durban’s existing broad events and entertainment offering.

The spectacular event entertains its viewers through a combination of extreme sportsmanship and a well executed performance.
